Dan saves Christmas in Williamsburg

Merry Christmas Eve Dear Ones!

As is our Christmas tradition Team L visited Williamsburg tonight to attend the "shooting of the guns" and the Christmas march that ushers in Christmas Eve. Dan and I have been going to see the march since we first started dating seven years ago (with the exception of 2008 when Aidan and Ella were born)

This time while we were walking around the town at dusk before the march had begun we stopped to take a closer look at a freshly lit burning torch - it was one of those large iron baskets standing about 6-7 feet high filled with wood logs and set ablaze to provide light along the road. But in this case, Dan noticed that the embers from the torch were falling on to very dry grass below and the grass had started to burn. As the grass burned it spread fire out in a concentric circle that became larger and larger as the seconds ticked along. Dan noticed that if the fire continued to spread it would reach a pile of scattered leaves next to an old picket fence. To make matters worse the torch was unattended. Left alone and unattended in an area distant to the main road the fire was sure to spread and grow exponentially as it was fueled by the dry grass, the leaves and then the kindling of the wood fence while no one but Dan and I and the kids observed what was happening. The costumed minutemen and town gentleman were gathered at the far end of the yard about 100 yards away without a view of the burning grass. It occurred to both of us that things could get out of hand so Dan went to alert some of the 'townsmen'.

When he came back they stamped out the fire and doused the ground with water as we watched - then we moved on to see the shooting of the cannons and the marching fife and drum core. And that is how Dan saved Christmas in Williamsburg!

We hope that you enjoy a wonderful Christmas day filled with love and joy. May all hearts be restored with the beauty and peace of the season.
